Important results from the project

The aim of the trip was to carry out a PhD course with great international exchange and networking. This has been achieved to a great extent. California is a welcoming state and we made several valuable contacts at both companies and universities.

Expected long term effects

The trip was characterized by a rarely seen dynamic, where visit destinations & expectations changed from day to day. This in combination with an extremely great openness & curiosity is an everlasting impression from California. We focused on the areas of 3D print, automation / self-driving cars & robotics. Several contacts were made with great opportunities for further cooperation. It also became clear on how they tackle problems in a slightly different way than we in Sweden are used to - from pure technology to the social aspects of managing & integrating technology in society.

Approach and implementation

The project was conducted as a PhD course of 7.5 credits linked to Halmstad University. Most of the preliminary work and the execution of the study trip and subsequent reporting were/will be carried out by the doctoral students themselves. The course P02 has been around for several years and the working method is relatively incorporated. Thanks to the grant from Vinnova, the course and the study trip could be carried out in an effective way where participation was not dependent on the individual´s own ability to pay for their participation.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
