Purpose and goal

The purpose of combining research from the field of health research and research within effective product development has been successful. This project takes a first step in the development of PDWatch, and we see that there is great potential for future studies in this area. Our survey of the literature indicates that studies designed to collect data in order to find causal connections are missing or of low scientific quality. Companies that we have come in contact with have shown great interest in and are interested in participating in future studies.

Results and expected effects

We have developed and tested PDWatch in two projects. The interest from the company we have worked with is great and we are currently planning to expand with additional projects. Further research is needed for a broader approach and collect data from several companies in various industries. The opportunity for further research based on data collected through PDWatch are great. E.g. can issues like What are the key success factors for my organization / project Prediction of delays / cost overruns in projects with suggestions for preventive measures be studied by using PDWatch.

Approach and implementation

The project has been managed by Stefan Cedergren and implemented together with Dan Hasson and Karin Villaume. In this project we have combined research in the field of health research and research within effective product development. A large and important part of the project was conducted in collaboration with the case company, who actively contributed to the development of PDWatch. PDWatch has been pilot tested by two product development projects in the case company during the spring of 2013.
