Important results from the project
The project was conducted in collaboration with staff and union to identify healthcare needs and challenges. Initial focus in Lund was orthopedics and later emergency care, and in Malmö infection care. The project´s goal was to develop ideas and concepts for processes, collaboration between care providers and care improvements initiated by personnel. We have identified, documented and analyzed these ideas and concepts. In psychiatry, the aim was to identify and describe the project ´Releasing Time to Care´. Our study showed that the project objectives have largely been achieved.
Expected long term effects
The project has demonstrated the importance of improved communication and coordination between departments and professions, as well as organizing in multiprofessional teams. Focus areas for improvement have been clarified, and may facilitate further improvement. Preparations have been made for a new expanded project including primary care and the participation of two researchers from the U.S.. The results of the project in the psychiatry clinics are described in a paper to an international scientific journal, and are expected to contribute to care improvements in psychiatry.
Approach and implementation
Initially, we conducted interviews at the clinics and staff departments. We carried out a joint workshop with ten participants, and different areas of focus emerged. Two areas were followed up and analyzed. At the clinics, 16 people were interviewed in five groups of mixed composition. Eight individual interviews with staff and managers were conducted. In psychiatry, we made three site visits and conducted interviews - individual and in groups - with 15 people from five departments in Lund, Stockholm and Södertälje that participated in the project and with the SKL process owners.
