Process optimisation of foam glass production

Reference number
Coordinator Glafo AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration November 2013 - August 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goal of the project was to increase the understanding of the foam glass process so that the production of foam glass can be optimized. It has been obtained by development of a foam glass production procedure in laboratory scale similar to the industrial production. An analyze technique determining the important property porosity of the foam glass has also been developed. This makes it possible to study the effect of different raw materials and process parameters and increase the knowledge about the process.

Results and expected effects

The project has given Hasopor new knowledge of how to plan and perform test in their production. The results from the laboratory tests have been implemented in the production resulting in a more even product quality, better strength properties and introduction of a new raw material in full scale production. These results made it possible to invest in a new furnace and thus increase the production capacity. A more stable production is an absolute condition for introducing a differentiated production.

Approach and implementation

The project was a collaboration between Hasopor and Glafo. Tests have been performed in laboratory scale and the relevant results have been introduced in the production. The same raw material has been used in laboratory scale as in production and thus makes it easier to implement the results in the industrial production. The results have been discussed at regular meetings, often on-line meetings where document are scared to enhance the efficiency.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
