Important results from the project

The project has contributed to increased resource efficiency and promoted a more circular food system. It has strengthened the industry´s opportunities for sustainability which can support Swedish actors. Important results are increased knowledge, a common platform and proposals that drive a protein shift with insects as an alternative protein source. Despite low commitment from relevant authorities, the project reached out widely by leading a policy lab during a national food conference.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute in the long term to a more circular and resource-efficient food system where food waste is used as a resource, strengthened climate sustainability and increased use of alternative protein sources such as insects. It creates the conditions for clearer regulations, increased collaboration between actors and strengthens Swedish competitiveness and innovative capacity in sustainable food production.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided into work packages, each managed by specific project parties. Progress was systematically followed up through regular meetings, where support needs were identified and a current "To Do List" set for the next meeting. Collaboration worked well, but two parties went bankrupt, complicating implementation and leading to a request for extension.
