Important results from the project

The project has demonstrated multi-user XR for industrial applications in design, production development and training. Requirements for industrial XR environments has been developed and verified in 13 demonstrators (VR, AR, web-based). Demonstrations have formed the basis for verifying needs and defining guidelines for future industrial XR platforms. A secure web-based XR platform prototype was subsequently developed. The project resulted in 24 publications and strengthened industrial anchoring.

Expected long term effects

The project´s requirements specifications and guidelines are expected to provide a good basis for further commercial development of industrial XR platforms for increased industrialization. At the same time, the project demonstrates and proposes guidelines for future industrial processes in design, production development and training. Multi-user XR can thus in the long term enable more efficient collaboration, reduced need for physical meetings, shorter lead times and better decision-making.

Approach and implementation

The project began with by analysing the needs and requirements through workshops with industry partners. Demonstrators were then developed in collaboration between academia and industry to verify the previous step. A web-based XR prototype platform with encrypted communication was then developed with intention to be further developed after the project. The work was organized into several work packages with a focus on requirements, technology and use, which ensured both relevance and quality.
