Planning of a high profile challenge prize competition

Reference number
Coordinator SICS SWEDISH ICT AB - Digital Health Lab
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration December 2015 - April 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has provided a basis that will be used in the process of application for implementing the project, we have also built the foundation for the diverse ecosystems that competition must operate within. The planning project has given us a good challenge formulation in an area with high relevance and great potential individual and societal benefits. It has been more time consuming than expected to secure external funding och resources since by the time we had the concept of the contest sorted, most organisation had already been thru the yearly budget allocation process.

Results and expected effects

The expected result is that we are both going to get our application for project funding granted and that the contest itself will be a success. We expect that the contest will result in a number of concrete implementations. Another effect is to contribute to a better understanding of what makes prize challenges work well and what challenges exist in the contest execution and how these can be managed.

Approach and implementation

The project began with a comprehensive business intelligence which different challenge areas and digital opportunities in the health field were studied. In various workshops the competition´s focus and direction has been gradually chiselled out. Interviews and discussions with representatives of research, industry and government have been conducted. Based on the above knowledge gathering a project proposal for the implementation in accordance with Nestas template was compiled.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
