Project duration November 2025 - November 2028
Status Ongoing
Venture Accelerate - FFI
Call Accelerera FFI system demonstrators - fall 2025

Purpose and goal

The goal of the OREEL project is to demonstrate sustainable, efficient and scalable systems for electrified transport and material handling in mining and processing plants. The demonstrations are carried out in different subsystems of production chains and are evaluated to generate knowledge on how the underlying system maturity level can be increased. The results will contribute to a total system analysis that will describe how a large-scale implementation of the solutions can be achieved.

Expected effects and result

The project intends to carry out a number of demonstrations of production and service machines in various applications in mines and fixed facilities in the relevant production systems. Two prototypes of electrified vehicle combinations for ore transport will be tested on different routes in Boliden´s and LKAB´s road transport systems. The experiences from the demonstrations will be taken forward in future planned procurements of electrified transportation and material handling.

Planned approach and implementation

An initial summary of requirements for the different solutions will be compiled through interviews and on-site analyses that will contribute to the design of a total system hypothesis on how the implementation of the solutions can take place. The demonstrations will generate input and contribute to further development of the hypothesis. A proposal for the design of the energy distribution system will be performed. The demonstrations are divided into mines, processing plants and road transport.
