Important results from the project
One aim is to better use the research results relating to the degradation of the insulation in the district heating pipes in order to improve the service life and to determine optimal intervals for service and maintenance of networks. Further, the purpose is to strengthen the position of the testbed Pipe Centre, which has been done through partnerships on the international and national levels. Added testbed services are consultations concerning lifetime predictions, maintenance and replacements.
Expected long term effects
More and deeper partnerships have been developed both nationally and internationally. Many new contacts have been established at presentations of ongoing research on the degradation of district heating pipes. A MOU was concluded between SP and KDHC (Korean District Heating Cooperation). SP´s method for evaluation of the adhesion of the polyurethane to the service pipe of district heating pipes in operation is part of discussions about new projects and it is closer to an established service.
Approach and implementation
The employees of the testbed have presented research results at international scientific conferences. Personal meetings with people from Korea, Germany and Sweden, who represents the industry, universities and institutes, have been carried out. Websites and newsletters have been updated. Testbed services have been formulated and a communication plan has been prepared. A workshop has been arranged at SP with participants from district heating network companies, industries and universities.
