Purpose and goal
The project investigates whether the use of dynamic charging in off-road application is possible, which could enable a fully electrified mining operation. Dynamic charging proves to be profitable, especially in larger mines with depth. In the completed study, energy transfer, different real environments and charging solutions have been studied based on several parameters and TCO.
Expected results and effects
The dynamic energy transfer is competitive in mines of a certain size / depth, but for smaller mines and quarries, the degree of efficiency of charging needs to be weighted against the investment. The decision basis in the next step of the project should therefore include more values, e.g. optimization of batteries and charging with regard to environmental impact.
Planned approach and implementation
The planned arrangement has been implemented in the collaboration between Volvo CE and LTH. On the other hand, the project has been granted advancement due to a pandemic and the planned work packages that include trips for partnership creation have not been conducted. However, other activities such as student projects have been able to compensate for this.
