Novel Catheter Tracking System

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Acreo AB - Rise Acreo, Kista
Funding from Vinnova SEK 955 032
Project duration September 2013 - February 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Aim of this project is to design and produce a novel tracking system for catheters used in cardiovascular procedures. The use of the novel tracking system will reduce the need of the contrast dye and x-ray during cardiovascular procedures.

Expected results and effects

The outcome of the NoCaTS project is a catheter sensor solution ready for further commercialization. The implementation of the Trackcath technology has been on a so-called ´pig tail´ catheter, a single lumen catheter used in catheter based procedures. The pig-tail catheter will be used further to track the position of the kidney arteries during the implantation of aortic stents.

Planned approach and implementation

M7 provided the concept of the ´Trackcath´ technology and develop the flow measuring system and graphical user interface. Cathprint offered unique technology that allows wiring and bonding of sensors in a parallelized way. RISE Acreo designed a direct pattern sensor manufacturing process. IST developed micro-sensors on chip level and performed process development. ZHAW contributed with expertise in design of electronics and software architecture. USZ prepared in vivo studies and ensured clinical, surgical and regulatory compliance expertise.
