Important results from the project
The Nordic Exploration PhD Summer School was held at the Hautalampi project in Finland with twelve PhD students from four Nordic countries. Goals were met through 2 ECTS field training, challenge-based learning, and interdisciplinary teamwork linking academia and industry. Results include new networks, reusable training materials, and broad dissemination via media and newsletters.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to strengthen future skills in sustainable mineral exploration through practical training and Nordic collaboration. New academic–industry networks, reusable teaching materials, and established methods will support long-term knowledge sharing and international cooperation.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out as a two-day field-based summer school at the Hautalampi project in Outokumpu, Finland, with two additional days for travel and logistics. Twelve PhD students from four Nordic and Baltic countries participated. They worked in interdisciplinary teams in a challenge-based learning environment using real geological data. The program included five stages: preparation, introduction, fieldwork, presentations, and follow-up.
