Purpose and goal
Hands-on training, interdisciplinary teamwork, and challenge-based learning to equip PhD students with problem-solving skills in exploration. Set at the Hautalampi brownfield site in Finland, targeting battery-critical commodities like cobalt, nickel, and copper, the program links academic knowledge with real-world challenges and prepares researchers for a sustainable raw materials future.
Expected effects and result
The summer school is expected to strengthen collaboration between Swedish and Nordic institutions, promote international mobility and PhD networks, and provide hands-on training in a real-world context. It is planned as a recurring event that will support long-term skills development and contribute to a sustainable raw materials supply chain in the Nordic region.
Planned approach and implementation
The summer school will take place over four days at the Hautalampi site in Finland. It includes online preparation, on-site introduction, hands-on fieldwork and a team challenge, expert-reviewed presentations, and follow-up networking. Participants will also receive mentoring from both academic researchers and industry professionals.
