Purpose and goal
Project NJORD develops an AI-based satellite service providing a real-time global overview of vessel movements for crisis preparedness and defense decision support. By combining EO/SAR satellite data with AIS and AI, the project creates a robust, autonomous, and scalable platform to detect, track, and analyze maritime activity. The goal is to deliver an MVP demonstrated in an operational environment (TRL 7).
Expected effects and result
The project will result in a technically validated MVP for maritime surveillance, strengthening Sweden’s control over supply chains in crises and conflicts. AI-based data fusion enhances early warning and decision-making capacity. The technology serves both civil and defense purposes, contributing to long-term Swedish and European maritime security and resilience.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is carried out in six work packages covering system design, AIS integration, AI development, and data fusion, ending with an MVP demonstration in a real environment. PandionAI leads the software platform development, from information flow modelling to operational testing, applying model-based systems engineering and close user collaboration to ensure operational value.
