Purpose and goal

The project´s purpose and objectives achieved were: (1) develop a prototype consisting of a service to provide open data (Nods), (2) develop principles for quality and securing the choice of open data and visualization of such, and (3) analyzed and documented systematized lessons learned from the development of open data in the project, through interviews with representatives of government and third-party developers and literature review of previous studies and research.

Results and expected effects

The project has established a prototype service (www.NODS.se) to make open data from the public sector available. The prototype is available and used today for testing in various fields. The project has resulted in theoretically grounded and useful knowledge regarding the development process and a number of necessary conditions for realizing open data with success, but also a number of challenges that municipalities and third parties are faced with the creation of external services.

Approach and implementation

The project was conducted in collaboration with Linköping municipality, Ida Infront AB and Linköping University. Work has been done in a triple helix constellation and based on the analysis of collaboration within the project team in the development of the emergency service as a prototype, interviews with municipal representatives, SKL, and third-party developers of services based on open data. The analysis has been utilized both qualitative and empirical data systematic study of previously published research about open data.
