Important results from the project

The goal of the project was "A competitive, high-quality EU proposal aligning partners and innovations on wood & mycelium, to ensure technical, financial, and societal feasibility". A proposal with the title "BIOBAU - bio-fabricated regenerative architecture with mycelium and wood inspired by the New European Bauhaus" was successfully sent in through the Horizon portal.

Expected long term effects

BIOBAU unleashes a new era in construction, converging innovation and aesthetics to transform the built environment. BIOBAU introduces breakthrough materials, including cultured wood and mycelium-based composites, engineered not only for sustainability but also for expressive beauty and sensory richness. The result: construction elements that are lightweight, carbon-negative, and uniquely beautiful, each piece a fusion of nature’s intelligence and human creativity.

Approach and implementation

In the project, we gathered the consortium for a joint meeting every Monday, as well as additional meetings to resolve specific parts of the proposal. Four main teams were identified – material development, needs analysis & transdisciplinary engagement, testing, and communication – each delving into different work packages and parts of the excellence section. RISE and Inova+ took responsibility for compiling the texts into a unified language that considered all aspects simultaneously.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
