Purpose and goal
The project´s objective was to evaluate an innovative technique in which multilayer systems are to create abhesive coatings with high mechanical performance. The aim was to develop such coatings by thermal spraying. The results showed that different abhesive materials can be successfully used in thermal sprayed multilayer systems and the resulting properties can provide unique functional properties for specific applications. Results of the project have both industrial and scientific interest and have generated new ideas for further research projects.
Results and expected effects
The project has resulted in a better understanding of the relationships between the coating chemical composition, surface energy and topography on one side and functional performance (abhesion and lifetime) on the other side. Almost all multilayer system coatings which were evaluated have shown better performance than the waxes used today in production. The project has collaborated both nationally and internationally (Germany, USA, UK). Results have been disseminated through scientific publications, conferences and seminars. The project has resulted in 2 new planned projects
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried through three work-packages 1) Practical and theoretical analysis of the problem, 2) Development and evaluation of alternative solutions, 3) Analysis of the results, planning how the results will be used, as well as planning the exploitation and diversification of the new application areas. The project´s development and results showed that both the structure and length of the work-packages were consistent with the planning and carrying out activities. The research questions in the application have been found to be relevant and valid for the project.
