Reference number
Coordinator Västerås Stad
Funding from Vinnova SEK 4 698 185
Project duration September 2013 - February 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

MISTEL is now an established test bed with a well-functioning methodology. The test bed is open for innovations that contribute to independence and well-being of elderly and people with disabilities, with or without care, and for innovations that contribute to a good municipally-funded health care. MISTEL is included in the regional innovation system, and thereby contributing to an innovator friendly climate. March 1, 2017 MISTEL becomes a regular activity under the Social Services Department in the City of Västerås, financed by the Elderly Committee.

Expected results and effects

MISTEL has conducted about 30 test bed projects for both Swedish and foreign innovators. Innovators and test participants have been very satisfied with the way the test bed projects have been implemented. That MISTEL now can charge for its services also shows that they are of value to the innovators. Because of the long process from idea to finished product, it is too early to evaluate which of the innovations that will reach the market and create benefits for the target group. Already, however, a few have reached the market and our expectation is that there will be more in coming years.

Planned approach and implementation

The efforts to create an effective process and structure of the test bed, which will give support to innovators, took place in two parallel tracks. In one track MISTEL has been working with "real" innovators and their innovations in order to gain knowledge and insight on how MISTELs service will be and work in practice. In the second track, the project has worked to create structures and processes for this work. Innovators, care organizations, test participants and cooperation partners have thus contributed to MISTEL now having a clear and user-friendly work process and methodology.
