Miniaturized tuneable millimeter-wave filters for reconfigurable wireless communication infrastructure

Reference number
Coordinator MICROCOMP NORDIC AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration December 2012 - August 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Through a study and meetings with potential customers, to ascertain whether the market for telecom and automotive would be well served to have miniaturized and reconfigurable filters at +70 GHz. The results of the study have shown that there is a future need for filters with possibility of software-reconfigurability via external interfaces. Basic designs of tuable solutions have been worked out and verified by modelling och simulations.

Results and expected effects

The expected effect of being able to reconfigure the filter system remotely depending on system load and traffic intensity to minimize interference between different users, is seen as one of the greatest benefits.

Approach and implementation

It is necessary to build a prototype tunable filter as a demonstrator to show to potential customers (telecommunication equipment manufacturers and for automotive industries). It is estimated that the development effort of such a demonstrator is in the order of SEK 2-3 millions, and would take 1.5-2 years to acomplish.
