Coordinator Orexplore AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 500 000
Project duration May 2013 - December 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The objective to develop, manufacture and deploy a mineral scanner for assay of heavy elements, like gold, in drill core or cuttings has been achieved. The analysis is nondestructive and analyzes the entire sample volume, which has not been previously possible. With the support of the project, an industry partner and a number of stakeholders have been linked to the company, which contributes positively to the company´s development. The purpose to try out the concepts for a sample-holder and produce a workable measurement platform has been met.

Results and expected effects

From a business perspective, Orexplore has fulfilled one of its main objectives of finding an industrial partner. With the co-opertion agreement with Swick Mining Services Ltd, Orexplore gains a customer, a future market channel into the international market and a stable financier. The project has also led to a growing interest in Orexplore and contacts have been established with geologists, particularly in Sweden and Australia. Among other things, geologist Stefan Sädbom has involved himself in Orexplore and is currently also chairman of the Board of Directors in Orexplore.

Approach and implementation

Orexplore´s strategy has been and is continuing to outsource mechanical design and electronics development. Core competencies: project management, software and algorithm development are kept as in-house. Competence strengthening has been made in those areas. The idea of using standard components have clearly facilitated system integration and will make future certification easier. External requirements gathering was central to the project and has been achieved through cooperation with Swick and through the gained network of geologists.
