Important results from the project

Much remains to be done to ensure that Sweden and Europe are considered to have a secure supply of critical metals and minerals, but the project has achieved its objectives and helped highlighting the issue. In consultation with more than 80 experts, a knowledge base and recommendations for decision-makers have been developed. The project´s issues have moved up the agenda, through the project reports and through all the seminars and meetings that have taken place within the project.

Expected long term effects

With increased knowledge and understanding of the complex issues involved, more proactive and informed decisions are expected. We hope that the government´s minerals strategy will reflect some of the project´s conclusions. Through the forthcoming minerals strategy and the already published research bill (which includes initiatives related to metals and minerals), we will have a longer-term impact and ultimately a more secure supply of critical metals and minerals in Sweden and Europe.

Approach and implementation

The project has proceeded and delivered according to plan. Much of the project work was carried out in three expert groups which produced the background reports. Throughout the project, these groups have reported to and received feedback from both the steering group and the reference groups. The political and international reference groups have been important to the project, both in providing valuable input and in anchoring the results of the project.
