Purpose and goal

MAPCI Open Innovation Lab (OIL) has been a strategic initiative to support the activities in MAPCI with the aim to accelerate innovation, increase competitiveness and efficiency in industry and society. A number of projects have been started in MAPCI OIL in areas such as healthcare, public transport, smart buildings, and human-machine interaction in Internet of Things. Six start-ups and two research centers have been established in MAPCI OIL.

Results and expected effects

MAPCI Open Innovation Lab (OIL) has led to an environment where researchers, companies and entrepreneurs from start-ups work together in joint activities and projects. Results from operations have already proven themselves by working prototypes in health care, a startup in smart homes, Sensative AB, which has launched a first product. More projects and startups are in place and are likely to follow with support from MAPCI OIL.

Approach and implementation

MAPCI Open Innovation Lab (OIL) builds on the idea of MAPCI - to be a melting pot for research, innovation, entrepreneurship and openness in mobile technology. The support from Vinnova has given the opportunity to purchase equipment and tools that can be shared by researchers and companies, such as back-end servers for experiments with cloud services and development tools for hardware and software. Through access to shared equipment and expertise, new business faster and more cost effective to get started with their business and become profitable.
