Purpose and goal

This project addresses how firms involved in the production of complex products and systems manage external knowledge acquisition. The aim of the project is to describe and analyse preconditions, processes and outcomes of knowledge acquisition efforts in collaborative R&D projects.

Results and expected effects

The preject is extected to present findings pertaining to preconditions and mechanisms for knowledge integration in collaborative R&D projects, findings that can be used to more efficiently use external knowledge acquisition in product development.

Approach and implementation

A four-year academia-industry interactive project is planned, consisting of one multiple case study of collaborative product development projects at four firms, followed by one internal survey among the same firms.
