Reference number
Coordinator WIKIMEDIA SVERIGE
Funding from Vinnova SEK 31 119
Project duration April 2015 - June 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

3 beautiful and interest raising visualizations that visualizes the data on Wikidata has been created which will come to good use in the future.

Results and expected effects

The contributions from the winners were very good and can be used to show what is in Wikidata and what you can do with that data. The first prize shows the huge amount of data and how it is spread geographically, which may lead to opportunities to get datasets from areas that have been behind. The runner up is interesting because it has built an open API so that you can create a beutiful visualization of almost anything in Wikidata which can be used to show off the diversity of the project, which is also a large part what makes it unique.

Approach and implementation

The project suffered from the late start but went well besides that. Invitations were sent out through all project partners networks. Most interest were found in the Wikidata community. Two press releases were sent out during the project. Because all participants in the challenge were international and could not come to Stockholm the last event was cancelled. To get more students to participate, the main period should be right after revision times.
