Important results from the project
The main purpose of the project was to continue to build strong industrial research in tribology. A national platform and an industrial consortium for a future centre of excellence was to be built up and culminated in an application for Vinnova´s CoE program. The goal was met and a total of 18 research partners (mainly companies) were included in the proposal, which was named LuCenT. LIGHT also aimed to deepen research and enable professional education. Within LIGHT, new basic and industry-relevant knowledge has been developed and a large number of educational videos have been recorded.
Expected long term effects
The results are in three categories, industrial collaboration, research, and professional education. Strong industry network with more than 30 companies is built. Some examples are Gestamp HardTech, Scania, SKF, Vattenfall, Volvo Cars and foreign companies such as Saint-Gobain and Denso. A large number of publications and conference presentations have been published in manufacturing and computational tribology. As well as in condition monitoring for tribology. About 60 videos have been created (available on Youtube). They can be used for professional education.
Approach and implementation
A number of meetings where a large number of companies gathered were held during the creation of the consortium, which brought together 18 large companies, SMEs and research institutes. The research within LIGHT has been focused on new areas to create knowledge and tools that can be used in future industrial collaborations. This has given the group an opportunity to enter areas such as acoustic emission, machine learning and digital twins. The training videos recorded will be used for tailor-made training for companies. A kind of "flipped classroom" concept for professional education
