Project duration September 2013 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aims at improving both innovation and efficiency by supporting the adaptation of Lean and Agile in organizations. The foundation of this objective has been laid in step 1 and a central implication of this work is the realization that research on Agile in relation to the organisation and the individual must go beyond mere innovation and efficiency. Agile seems to have a central role in learning processes, which affects a range of individual factors including motivation and job satisfaction.

Results and expected effects

The project aims to support participating organizations with the implementation and adaptation of Agile and Lean to facilitate both innovation and efficiency. The pre-study is a good basis for this organisational improvement effort. Quantitative research is now planned to be able to generalize the results of the pre-study. New solutions will be developed in Step 2, based on general knowledge about the effects of Agile. An appreciated effect of project is also the demonstation of the scientific method used for the interviews and the analysis in the pre-study.

Approach and implementation

The set-up initially included four organizations, of which two emerged with the opportunity to continue to step 2. The pre-study planned for more networking between internal stakeholders as well as with external parties than was what turned out to be the case. A reason for this was that the set-up processes in the organizations required more time than the initial planning estimated. The coordination losses for a project with four organisations also proved too large to be handled within the confines of the limited pre-study period.
