Reference number
Coordinator SILVA SWEDEN AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 410 000
Project duration December 2012 - November 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has developed an open innovation methodology with a focus on Lead Users. The method has been designed so that it is integrable with Silva´s existing processes and ways of working. The focus during the project has been on orienteers, and it´s with help from Lead Users within this area that a prototype has been developed. The final method, however, is not limited to being used only for the sport of orienteering, but is a general methodology that can be adapted to different areas and levels of innovation.

Results and expected effects

The project has resulted in an open innovation methodology with a focus on Lead Users. The method is based on that Lead Users are found before a project starts; this doesn´t take place in a project as for the Lead User method. At those times when lead users are not found the IDEO or traditional methods will be used. Suggestions on the use of crowdsourcing has been made, more work is required to bring such a methodology to Silva. A prototype has been developed. The technical part and visual feedback is completed. Sketches are available for audio feedback and combination.

Approach and implementation

The setup was advantageous for the project since the area was defined at project start. We also had a specialist and central figure within the orientation community that easily could point out Lead Users and attract these. This person also kept track on trends within the field. Through SICS contacts we were able to take part of code for the prototype software that had taken much too long to develop from scratch.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
