Purpose and goal

The project has carried out an ´state of the news media market´ analysis, formed a future market position with growth potential and identified new media formats for further experimentation and development. The project has agreed upon a set of cooperation principles for a successful innovation ecosystem: Free access to knowledge and best practices Continuous updates on the changing market dynamics Education and training of future skills Creative collaboration to foster design thinking and an innovative mindset An international agenda to cooperate with world-leading experts

Results and expected effects

With the purpose of identifying the best possible opportunities for sustainable and competitive news journalism, a number of key areas for further research has been defined: Big Data and personal integrity Viral news media behaviour The perception of high quality, premium news The New Media Ecosystem The power of the individual Engagement Diversity of news consumption Small languages areas as news media markets

Approach and implementation

The project process has used a year long workshop series as a starting point. Market knowledge has been developed for each session, and in combination with hands-on experiences from digital market places, future scenarios for news journalism has been created. External stakeholders, researchers, experts, users and students have been invited throughout the process to add their perspectives on the future media market. All insights have been summarized in an innovation agenda, including proposals for new business development as well as further research.
