Irrigation-aspiration catheter for local drug delivery without volume restrictions

Purpose and goal

Pump, Tube set and the Catheter for the brain is almost ready for production. The latest prototype for the Pancreas that is produced has; ability to simultaneously aspirate and irrigate fluids from and into the body, and have an entrance for medicines. It also has a ´pig-tail´ locking mechanism at the tip. A Design Specification describing the prototype and its functions is distributed to the participating doctors and to the Main participant. Since the project is terminated early, by the Main participant, no more prototypes for evaluation will be made.

Results and expected effects

Formation of strategic alliances, for production of all in-going products, is established and cooperation has begun. The expected project results of the Pancreas catheter have however only been possible to evaluate to a limited extent, since the work is terminated early. Further evaluation and verification of the technical applicability of the catheter, which should be the next step for the prototype, will not be performed. The planned clinical study and finally the CE-marking will neither be performed.

Approach and implementation

The initial planning of the project was very good and the participating parties were suitable for the task. All the required competences, for having a successful project, were available. Hotswap have maintained a competent and suitable staff during the entire project and have continuously supported, in all parts of the project, the Main participant and all other companies in the consortium when needed. The project has been very interesting for all Hotswap participants. The execution of the project has had some flaws regarding participants´ cooperation and overall project management
