Project duration February 2013 - June 2016
Status Completed
End-of-project report 2012-04626sv.pdf(pdf, 534 kB) (In Swedish)

Purpose and goal

The project has been successful through close collaboration with partners from both industry and academia. The main research areas have been use and selection of sensors, sensor fusion, actuation & control, route planning, communication with and HMI aspects of the dispatch system for controlling autonomous vehicles. The research platform consists of a normal truck with the addition of sensors, network and computing capacity. Together with vehicle dispatch it forms a complete system where the vehicle is able to perform transport missions without vehicle driver.

Expected results and effects

The project has developed functions for an autonomous vehicle, including vehicle control utilizing existing systems and off board dispatch for mission assignment, surveillance and collection of production data. Results have been excellent and project demonstrations have been very well received. Today there is a wealth of articles on iQMatic published, both in newspapers and on Internet. We judge that this had led to increased attention to and interest in the science and technology behind autonomous vehicles and that this on a longer term strengthen Sweden´s position in this area.

Planned approach and implementation

Our research platform developed at full scale has been very valuable in providing a scene for live experiments in the search for answers to some of the research questions in the area of autonomous vehicles. Through this project five PhDs have been provided with a unique opportunity to develop solutions to research problems through the use of data from real experiments, solutions of which many also have been validated on by use of the same platform. There has also been around twenty MSc thesis works produced within the iQMatic project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
