Purpose and goal

´Intercultural communication aid´ aimed to further develop the concept Comic Health to ensure pedagogical and effective communication, fulfil ethics and security requirements of users and the health system and to prepare for the sale of the concept. The project has developed an IT-based communication aid whereby patients can assimilate information about diabetes and in appointment letters through image, text and speech in 10 languages. The tool has been evaluated and verified by the users.

Results and expected effects

The project has developed 31 target group-customised image series about diabetes and 3 for appointment letters for women with established cell changes. The project has also developed an IT solution with media library, app and web view. The appointment letter information is expected to decrease non-attendance which is a problem. For diabetes, the communication aid is expected to educate and inform patients over time, resulting in better understanding of the disease and motivating good self-care.

Approach and implementation

The project developed information norm critically based on care processes and needs of patients, kindred and the health system. The development was done in close partnership with relevant stakeholders. The tool has been verified and benefits evaluated by users. The project procured recording studios to record speech for images. This delayed start of appointment letters while test period aimed at diabetics kept on schedule. The technology needs to be developed, especially the interface for iPad.
