Integration of construction machinery

Reference number
Coordinator Luleå tekniska universitet - ProcessIT Innovations
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 325 000
Project duration August 2013 - September 2014
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA

Purpose and goal

Collaboration has been the main theme, implying for technical requirements that automation components/subsystems with a potential to be used in several application areas should have well defined interfaces and be developed in collaborative projects. The project has held meetings open to all consortium parties to participate in. Challenges specific to each industry have been discussed. Atlas Copco expanded the consortium; collaborations have been established with Tunga Fordon, Robotdalen and Interactive Institute. Contact has been established with TEBAB administering SACE.

Results and expected effects

The project has resulted in the SIP Piia WROOMM project with participation from parties in the consortium and in four proposals for feasibility studies with focus on a road map for integration and automation of working machines with broad national consensus, remote operated working machines for fire-fighting in mines, enhanced operator assistance for remote rock breaking and initial work with a road map for automation and communication in open pits. Expected impact of the on-going project and the feasibility studies are efficient FUI work at the national level based on collaboration.

Approach and implementation

The work has been conducted with active participation from the industry parties. The first part of the project was characterized by a number of meetings that resulted in the project proposals, but also made the importance of collaboration regarding RDI clear. RDI discussions resulted in that the focus in the latter part of the project was directed towards a road map for integration and automation of working machines on a national level. The project also resulted in an on-going demonstration project aiming to test and demonstrate industrial video using a remote operated wheel loader.
