Venture Cluster of Excellence for Cutting-Edge Technologies - calls for proposals
Call Visions for world-leading research and innovation in strategic technology areas

Purpose and goal

The project aims to formulate a vision and overall plan to establish a cluster of excellence integrating materials design, product development and production management, accelerated by AI and in-operando methods. The cluster will focus on metals, especially steel and hard metals, which are crucial for energy, transport, food and defense, with methods that are transferable to other sectors.

Expected effects and result

By 2035, the cluster will have established Sweden as a world-leading player in adaptive, digitalized and sustainable manufacturing, attracting expertise and investments and delivering societal benefits through circularity, resilience and competitiveness. By combining real-time monitoring with AI-driven models, synthesis and adaptive control, the cluster will shorten innovation cycles, enable large-scale recycling and reduce material and energy use for sustainable production.

Planned approach and implementation

The initiative brings together leading universities, industry partners and research infrastructures from across Sweden. In this vision phase, activities will include workshops (physical as well as digital), international benchmarking and the development of a roadmap to identify critical industry demonstrators, design governance structures and ensure that the vision is aligned with national and European strategies.
