Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration November 2012 - April 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to find the reason why the hair come loose or break on the reindeer fur skin. This happend during the process of the production and by using the fur. The goal is to find chemicals that strengthen and protect the fur. This will increase the fields of applications and the profitability for reindeer fur skins.

Results and expected effects

The result of the project gave a knowledge where the hair is most sensible during the process. With this knowledge we know how to go further to find solutions to get less hair loose. In addition we know now which kind of chemicals we can use to protect the hair against mechanical wearing.

Approach and implementation

The hair from different type of reindeer skins from different steps of the process and different treatments have been analysed. The analyse is made through test of the strenghtness by stretching, combing and mechanical wearing.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
