Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project was to develop an innovative Underwing Nozzle with an integrated Breakaway function. A lot of efforts has been made to study standards and examine patents on existing solutions. Several difficulties had to be technically solved. MannTek has shown that this is possible.
Expected results and effects
MannTek has developed an Underwing Nozzle and a breakaway coupling that mainly works well. MannTek has increased our competence within: General aircraft fuel handling. Seal technology. Surface treatment, Friction reduction. Swivels design. Security and interlock functions on couplings. We intend to take advantage of some of the innovations and knowledge in future product development projects.
Planned approach and implementation
The work has been done as a project. The course of the work has mainly been following the listed items: 1.Acquiring of knowledge, reading of standards, evaluation of excisting patents, study visits at airports etc. 2.Brainstorming, principal sketching. 3.Design work, manufacturing of components, part tests, redesigning. 4.Prototype manufacturing, assembling and tests. The schedule has worked well and follows MannTeks standard procedures but has been more time consuming than expected.
