Purpose and goal

The main objective for the project has been to create a new cross disciplinary constellation, where academic partners, institutes and companies are brought together, focusing on tooling technology. To create a network across different trades and to share competence and knowledge is a major step towards establishing a new tooling agenda. The project has also aimed at identifying the critical challenges for Swedish industry in the tooling area, in order to build the future competiveness.

Results and expected effects

A continued cooperation between the involved parties will have substantial effects on sustainability with regard to: more efficient manufacturing processes with improved material utilization, reduced energy consumption and better process efficiency. The existing competences in industry and academia will be more integrated and better structured and new knowledge will be established through the technology driven projects. New business models enable the companies to boost profit and create new employment opportunities.

Approach and implementation

The operative work has been carried out in workshops at 3 different levels, where the first and the last workshop were common for the whole project group, whereas workshops in between these were specifically focused on each branch. The purpose with the chain of workshops was to express the goals, visions and challenges connected tooling and tooling industry. The issues and discussions followed a planned progression in detailing the challenges and activities throughout the workshop series.
