Important results from the project

The project aimed to improve the health of patients which was achieved for patients with essential tremor and Parkinson´s disease, by introducing a new treatment method - and new medtech equipment - in Sweden. This was possible as a result of strengthened collaboration between health care principals in Sweden. The project also contributed to a new strategy for university healthcare and is expected to lead to increased quality and efficiency in Swedish healthcare.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to lead to increased quality and efficiency in Swedish healthcare through i.a. medical technology innovations. This includes improved patient and care flows, strengthened collaborations with medical technology companies, and more effective governance and support for innovation in healthcare. This is achieved by scaling up processes, tools, working methods, and techniques developed within the framework of the project.

Approach and implementation

The project has been implemented by applying an innovation process developed in Region Västerbotten - including analysis of needs, possible measures and feasibility, and development of economic models. The work is primarily led by health care personell, with support from Innovationscentrum. Dialogue and collaboration with relevant stakeholders in healthcare, academia, industry and patients permeate the entire process. Lessons are disseminated and experiences are shared internally and externally.
