Infrastructure covering a new process for applications for access to samples in clinical trials

Reference number
Coordinator Region Uppsala
Funding from Vinnova SEK 14 905 728
Project duration August 2021 - September 2024
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The overall expected results of the project were cost-effective infrastructure, digitized processing support and simplified applications for sponsors. All these overall results have been achieved by the project. The entire workflow for clinical trials has been digitized and this has meant a national work process, which in turn has meant that processes have been simplified and that previous regional differences in the handling of cases no longer exist.

Expected long term effects

For researchers, it will provide the opportunity for simpler applications and that you have very good control in advance of which delivery you will receive from the Biobank. As the infrastructure grows and more and more processes, systems and actors are connected, more data can be made available to researchers. Digitization also provides an opportunity for automation, which means that lead times can be shortened and the risk of errors in the transformation between different actors is reduced.

Approach and implementation

In order to manage the complexity of the project and changing requirements throughout the project, agile methodology was used. The big challenge has been to determine and clarify which rules apply when sending information between all parties. The time-schedule was followed relatively well by constantly focusing on the most prioritized tasks so that the development could relate to the changing requirements without losing momentum. The cooperation between all parties has worked well.
