Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The long-term objective of the project is to find cost effective products for the international market as well as a simple and transparent procurement process for major contracts in Sweden. On the way there, we need to make theoretical comparative studies on energy efficiency and emissions, and then put the economy on the whole in a systems perspective. During the first step we´ve investigated needed data and what we need more, either theoretical calculate or practical measure. We have also defined a specific construction, a tunnel construction project.

Expected results and effects

The results achieved in step I has been as expected. We have reached a much wider knowledge of the contents of a construction process, we have taken out the measurement data on energy and emissions that are available, and what we need to add with practical measurements. We have set up different work packages and worked to break them down into smaller activities. However, we have not reached as far in the construction of a simple and transparent procurement process, as expected at the start. We think we have a good basis for the continuation of step II, where these things should be taken care of.

Planned approach and implementation

The team has had several meetings in the large group in step I with three purposes. First, the team needs to come together to get to know each other and understand each other´s activities. In this context, we have at three different meeting with a deeper review of respectively activities. Each encounter has also had an operational and more projecting part. The analysis says that it has been a winning formula, though it is difficult to get a large group together without having a lot of planning in advance.
