Purpose and goal

International research shows that there is a strong correlation between study results, wellbeing and health. The project aims to develop new tools, methods and new working methods to promote student presence through AI and machine learning. The purpose is to support teachers in their daily attendance work, promote health equity and contribute in the long term to better public health among young people. The attendance tool and student app enables school staff to get an overview of absence trends and to detect and be able to follow up and promote school attendance early.

Expected results and effects

We contribute towards Agenda 2030, Goal 3 Health and Well-Being (preventive work and promote mental health) and Goal 4 Good Education for all and create inclusive and safe educational environments. Attendance tools provide the opportunity to work proactively with early efforts. Our sub-solution a pupil-app should be used to achieve better predictability and, in the long term, and make schools better equipped to tailor successful interventions. We are part of several networks and we are well known within the City of Gothenburg and regionally, but also nationally and internationally.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in-collaboration with industry, school staff, educational administrations, academia, VGR and SKL. We have tested the tool at three pilot schools in the City of Gothenburg and several schools have been involved and given us feedback. It has been an iterative process where we have continuously received feedback from teachers and developed user-friendly solutions and methods, to facilitate for teachers in their daily attendance work.
