Important results from the project

The project´s aim has been to develop practical, coherent tools able to support municipalities in their work against discrimination and exclusion. Together with managers/directors in the municipality of Vänersborg, Emerga Institute has investigated their need for support and tools to enhance their work against discrimination and exclusion. Based on investigation, Emerga developed eight tools, which have been tested in the everyday activities. The tools have been further developed after feedback from the participants. Thus, the project´s aim has been fulfilled.

Expected long term effects

The project has led to the development of tools aimed at supporting managers and directors in their work for non-discrimination and inclusion. The participants maintain that they are now able to work more actively with the issues on a day-to-day basis. They also state that work process clarifying their need of practical tools has made them aware of the importance of active work for non-discrimination and inclusion. Thus, the project has resulted in the development of a well-functioning working method with joint workshops for both organisational and subject competent participants.

Approach and implementation

The project´s design with joint workshops focusing on inspiration and the identification of the participants´ need for support, development of tools to meet these needs and testing/feedback was successful. The experiences from the project will feed into a corollary project. We note that even if the project´s design has proven successful, it can be improved by increasing the project period. An extended period will allow for an initial section on non-discrimination/inclusion, more time for the participants to test the tools, and individual coaching.
