Purpose and goal

Health Hack Academy (HHA) is a unique 5-step program which bring together different organsiations, companies and entrepreneurs to develop the Digital Health sector in Sweden; to develop new digital health solutions and to market Sweden as an international arena for Digital Health. The program recieved great interest from participants. In total, over 80 people participated or contributed in HHA alone and over 3000 people received information about HHA.

Results and expected effects

The result of the project is a conceptualised and tested 5-step program, Health Hack Academy, aimed to develop new digital solutions to meet the health challenges. The program is also an important event to market Stockholm and Sweden as an arena for Digital Health. The initiative brings together companies, entrepreneurs and industry and patient associations to discuss pressing health issues. The outcome was many exciting project ideas, several of which stand a good chance to see the light of commercialisation. HHA 2015 is currently being discussed.

Approach and implementation

Unlike other hackathons, HHA had three extra modules in addition to the actual hackathon, plus it was closely linked to the international congress Digital Health Days (DHD) 2014. The program starts with a needs analysis where teams form and can chose challenges from real healthcare needs. Following, is a 48h hackathon in which 5 finalist teams are selected. The finalists continue the program and get help to develop their idea into a prototype. Before the final showdown at DHD, they get training in how to pitch to investors, partners and clients by professional coaches.
