Venture Challengedriven innovation - Phase 3 Implementation

Purpose and goal

By including participants from all parts of the value chain our aim is to gain maximum experience on flooding in cities and implement innovative, effective solutions. The project has developed multifunctional constructions for paved surfaces. Constructions, able to cope with traffic and stormwater. Constructions, also providing much improved living conditions for city trees. The constructions have been tested and verified in full scale laboratory tests and pilot in several cities. Short descriptions can be found on our homepage.

Expected results and effects

New constructions for paved surfaces have been developed and with verified performance. A free soft-ware, for dimensioning of traffic loads and storm water handling is available on our homepage. Decision support tools have been developed for the Municipalities. Expected effects are fast implementation of more pilots in Sweden as a start, paving the way for a sustainable storm water policies and management. This will lead to more jobs for the industries, consultants and a more integrated and sustainable city planning of storm water, paved surfaces and tree plantation.

Planned approach and implementation

Existing storm water solutions, policies and regulations have been mapped. Proposals for improvements have been suggested. The most realistic construction solutions have been assessed in full scale laboratory test at e.g. VTI’s premises. The initial constructions were developed in step 3 and also implemented in pilots in several cities. The performance of innovative permeable, multifunctional constructions for trafficked surfaces and also new structural soils for trees has been validated. Our solutions are now being communicated in Sweden and many other countries.
