Important results from the project

GRÄV wants to develop norm-critical competence in the mining industry and in types of mill towns. Thus GRÄV invited voestalpine AB in Munkfors and Munkfors municipality to participate. GRÄV also wants to use norm critique to increase innovative capacity in typical mining areas and in types of mill towns. GRÄV has combined norm creative innovation methods with design tools and cooperation between mils and the local town to create the Munkfors model. Thus, the Munkforsmodel was born to address challenges of technical innovation and social development.

Expected long term effects

With the Munkfors model´s focus on identifying and managing innovation and efficiency-inhibiting norms, we can increase capacity and quality in the innovation work in the Swedish mining and metal industry. We believe that the Munkfors model should continue to be developed in close collaboration with business and municipality, and that the model should be tested in new towns. We see that the model can benefit areas of production efficiency, competence development and industry attractiveness by allowing new people to participate in tehnological innovation and community development

Approach and implementation

GRÄV worked with norm creative and design methods in a workshop format where employees at voestalopine AB participated in four and representatives from the municipality and non-profit organizations participated at three occasions. The norm rounds generated the most, insights and materials, into how norms manifest themselves and affect people, both positively and negatively. These insights have been analyzed and presented to the participants. And form the basis for a communication plan and app that allows Munkfors to continue to go on more norm rounds.
