Project duration November 2017 - December 2021

Purpose and goal

Funding of collaborative projects is a key factor for initiating concrete collaborations between academia and other organizations. In order to attract larger grants or investments for such projects, exploratory work is often required, for example in the form of pre-studies, before a clear project plan can be formulated. In order to speed up these start-up processes and increase the project quality, funding is needed locally at the higher education institutions. This project has developed best practice of university-wide funds and thereby increase the possibilities for impact.

Expected results and effects

The project has delivered recommendations and a funding model for increased utilization. The project has included the following perspectives: Robust and transparent decision-making procedures for funding, procedures to follow-up funding in order to increase possibilities for impact, learning about how to identify the right ideas for funding, routines that give a strong foundation for long-term financial sustainability in the projects, and, a developed collaborative culture where new target groups are engaged in collaborative projects.

Planned approach and implementation

As a first step, the project produced a compilation of previous tests. Based on that, a number of funding instruments (12) was prioritized, tested and developed within the project. The test phase constituted the main part of the project work. Among other things, processes, assessment criteria, etc. was developed jointly by the institutions. The financial instruments were evaluated throughout the testing period and was adjusted continuously. Based on the test results, recommendations were analyzed, documented and can now be used widely in Sweden.
