Full-scale demonstration plant for freeze-drying of sewage sludge

Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 930 000
Project duration December 2013 - March 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose and objective of the project, to build a full-scale demonstration plant for freeze-drying of sewage sludge is met .

Results and expected effects

The hope, but perhaps not the expectation was that the plant would be able to freeze an even flow of wet sewage sludge for a short period of operation. There is still development work before the sludge can be evenly distributed in the freezer table. The consistency of the sludge varies, causing additional technical solutions must be examined if we are to achieve consistent quality in further tests.

Approach and implementation

Preliminary work on the project has been to find ways of collaboration based on knowledge of the process and technology and establish it in the contract. In parallel, we are working with sketches and basic drawings, based on the input data and map out alternative processing. We then see, inter alia, lack of knowledge about slams behavior as the basis for mechanical design to entry, freezing technique, Pipe dimensioning and other equipment such as air flow and moisture separation and flow calculations, etc. The estimated time period for the construction and installation is thus prolonged.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
