Important results from the project
The strategic aim is a sustainable aquaculture, producing high quality products based on resources that are now regarded as wastes. This will decrease the dependency on fossil resources and at the same time diminish the environmental impact of the industries generating these wastes. We generated a conception to convert residues to feed for aquaculture, and organised an academic/ industrial consortium, covering each partial process of the conception.
Expected long term effects
We generated a survey about the field and organised an industrial/ academic consortium. On short term we expect co-financing by Vinnova for the research project. In strategic terms we are developing highest scientific competence in the field and, based on this, a sustainable aquaculture, which diminishes the environmental burden by waste products. Sustainable production is essential for competitiveness of Swedish industry and will generate working opportunities in the local communities.
Approach and implementation
At first the involved specialists generated a survey within their specific fields, which was then synthesised at internal meetings. The survey of the field was presented at smaller local meetings. Industry representatives were also contacted by phone and e-mail. An originally planned symposium with industry representatives could not be organised within the time frame, however, the system with small meetings was seen as more efficient within this planning phase.
