Call Needs-driven defense innovation in the Transparent Battlefield

Purpose and goal

FENIX builds upon a civilian innovation, a patented method for spinning high-performance fibers from nanocellulose and applies it to defense-related challenges. The aim is to develop multifunctional composite materials from these fibers to achieve integrated functionalities, such as smart embedded sensing. The project´s goal is to develop new bio-based composites with advanced functionalities, such as built-in sensor technology.

Expected effects and result

The project will develop initial prototypes to validate the technical and functional feasibility of the concept. These results may pave the way for larger initiatives, as deeper collaboration projects with the defense industry or continued development supported by organizations like Vinnova or EDF. From a business perspective, this enables CelluXtreme (CXE) to position itself as a pioneer in bio-based defense materials, strengthening the company’s appeal to investors and strategic partners.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is led by CelluXtreme (CXE) and carried out in collaboration with RISE. It is structured into three work packages aimed at achieving the set goals within 12 months. The methodology is based on iterative development sprints that include design, testing, and evaluation, reducing risks and enabling continuous adjustments. The project also includes strategic business development, in its final phase, a exploitation plan will be developed based on technical and business-related results.
