Purpose and goal

This feasibility study will lay the foundation for an AI-based material characterization platform by finding the best possible method for a full-scale project that can provide us with a possible AI solution for predicting mechanical properties. In addition, the feasibility study shall evaluate available data for material property prediction and recommend a possible data structure for the full-scale project.

Expected effects and result

The long-term goal of this project is to develop an AI-based material characterization platform to characterize the mechanical material properties of metal alloys based on their alloying elements and the production processes. This could for the automotive industry be a hot or cold rolled sheet that later in the process is press-hardened, heat treated and welded.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be executed in five work packages, each contributing to the overall goal of developing an AI-based material characterization platform. WP1 - Definition of materials and properties in the feasibility study; WP2 – Data structure and availability; WP3 – AI model for property prediction; WP4 – Material testing and validation and WP5 – Project management.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
