Important results from the project
This feasibility study aims to facilitate the recruitment of quarry operators for the aggregates producing industry. This industry, which produces crushed rock, gravel and recycled aggregates for construction purposes, anticipate extensive retirements in the coming years. The feasibility stydy is expected to provide insight into which new groups the industry can identify appropriate future quarry operators as well as a recommendation whether to proceed with a main study, which is proposed.
Expected long term effects
The feasibility study indicates that there is a need for approximately 150 new quarry operators within five years. Three groups have been discussed; women, people who have left school without full reviews and new Swedes. The feasibility study recommended going ahead with a main study which reviews and plans 1. How women and new immigrants to be attracted and recruited to the quarry industry. 2. Requirement of professional courses for new immigrants, and how they should be organized and financed. 3. The need for support to the industry´s enterprises in order to recruit women.
Approach and implementation
The study has been conducted through literature studies, interviews with human resource managers, also given an opportunity to review the report, a mining company, a female skilled labor, researchers, principals and teachers in secondary schools, officials at the Public Employment Service and the Migration Board. At a seminar with representatives from government agencies and companies as well as during an industry meeting, the subject has been treated. The need for new recruits is based on responses from the five largest producers which supply 65 percent of the industry´s output.
