EUREKA project E!8048 REDO! Reshaping the book industry by developing next generation publishing tools

Reference number
Coordinator Publit Sweden AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 000 000
Project duration February 2013 - May 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The most important purpose of the project was to prepare Publit for internationalization, with a specific focus on the German market. The project also aimed to lay the foundation for a robust and scalable data model geared towards the needs of large publishing corporations with a need to efficiently coordinate activities on multiple markets. Lastly, the project aspired to build a platform that let German, Swedish and English speaking publishers sell books direct to consumers worldwide.

Results and expected effects

If paying customers signifies success, this project has been very successful indeed. One of the largest publishing houses in Europe has chosen Publit as the underlying platform for a soon to be launched self-publishing service that will roll out on several European markets. The Swedish multi national corporation Tetrapak also chose Publit´s direct to consumer platform for the distribution of on-demand printed training material to employees spread all over the world. In all, the project has been very successful.

Approach and implementation

It´s been challenging to steer the project through the turbulence caused by the fact that the corporate group which initially owned both our project partners, was split not even half ways into the project. The Berlin based printer Koebcke is now owned by UK based group Mimeo and has lost several persons that were key to the project. This unforeseen event has changed and delayed some work packages but by no means risked the project.
